I remember the look on my children's faces as we stepped out of our comfort zone for the first time—a mix of wide-eyed wonder and a little bit of fear.

In that foreign country, the "outdoors" wasn't just a place to visit; it was our new reality. Whether we were trying to cook a hot meal on a mountain trail using a tactical gas stove or setting up a pool in a dusty backyard to give my kids a sense of "home," I learned a hard lesson: In the unknown, your gear is your lifeline.
